Monument Job Stories

Waterproofed Stone & Brick Foundation in Colorado Springs, CO

The majority of the time, when basements are flooded with water, the seepage occurs on the floor where the foundation wall meets the slab. However, because concrete is porous, hydrostatic pressure on the outside of the wall, can force water not only through the floor joints, but can actually course water THROUGH the wall itself!

That’s just what Helen, in Monument, CO experienced with her basement. An old stone & mortar foundation, Helen had water appearing on the face of her foundation wall and cascading down the interior right into the basement.

She then called Peak Structural out for an inspection, and Systems Design Specialist Brandon Armstrong stopped her problem. Brandon called for WaterGuard to be installed along the perimeter, and the Basement Systems Cleanspace Wall Liner along all leaking parts of the foundation. This ensures that any moisture/water that makes its way into the basement, will be guided down the wall, right into your interior piping system. This water is then sent away by a Sump Pump.

Helen can now rest easy knowing that any way water tries to flood her basement, she’s covered on all ends.

Window Well Replacement in Monument, CO

When this Monument homeowner began landscaping his backyard, he noticed his window wells weren’t in great shape. He decided to call Peak Structural for a free estimate to evaluate his options.

When Design Specialist Matt Marine began looking at the window wells, he saw they desperately needed replacing. The 3 existing wells were made of railroad ties that had started to rot. Water filled the window wells immediately when it rained, causing water to leak into the basement.

Matt proposed the installation of three new corrugated steel window wells, as well as steel grates with polycarbonate covers to prevent anyone from falling in. The homeowner decided to upgrade to have a Stacked Stone print on the window wells for a more aesthetically pleasing look.

The installation took one day, and now this Monument homeowner can rest easy knowing his window wells are safe from rot and his basement is safe from water intrusion.

“Jeff did a great job explaining the process. He was very knowledgabe and helpful. Not one question went unanswered. He even went out if his way to drive me to his store to show mw examples. Brandon Dodd as foreman with young Anthony were extremely professional and knowledgeable regarding my indoor drainage installation. Both very curteous and their work was clean and detailed. They care a lot about their craft. I was very impressed with their honesty which saved me $2000 and since I have contracted a window well installation as well. Anthony is a great worker and his expertise is admirable. I would hire these gentlemen again and request them for my window well installation.”

They were very professional, very conscientious and as someone who does a lot of home improvement work, I believed they treated my house like it was their own. Peak Structural has been great. Two jobs now and both completed earlier than originally scheduled with great results. You’ve got a good thing going.”

Case Studies: Flooded Basement Repaired in Monument, CO

Thursday, October 15th, 2015 by Matt Marine

Michelle Dougherty had been cooridinating a very large family reunion in her home for months. She was expecting kin from all over the country to visit her home in Monument. Many of whom were staying with Michelle. What she wasn’t expecting, was the longest spout of rain this area has experienced in nearly 80 years! The result: water leaking into her beautifully finished basement, destroying the carpet and sheetrock in nearly every room. Apart frmom the damage to her home and belongings, this was a hiccup in her party plans. With little time to spare, all the furniture and finishings had to be moved out for carpet removal, and the framed sheetrock walls would need to be repaired, as well. Though, it makes little sense to spend money on these repairs when there’s a clear-cut issue of water intrusion that will most likely happen again & again.

In stepped Peak Structural. Systems Design Specialist Matt Marine inspected the home, and concluded that water is entering the basement in two spots. The majority of the water being forced through the cold joint (where the foundation wall meets the footer & slab) by hydrostatic pressure, as well as water filling the window wells like an aquarium and making its way inside. To resolve these issues permanently, Matt prescribed the patented WaterGuard System to permanently keep this basement dry.

WaterGuard was needed on 3 walls experiencing water. The Peak crew removed the concrete slab away from the wall, and applied WaterGuard directly on top of the footing to channel all water away. Michelle did have a sump pump in place, but not all pumps are made equally. Her current pump died when it was needed most. Peak replaced this pump with a Zoeller M53, one of the best residential pumps on the market, as well as the Basement Systems Super Sump on the other end of the basement.

Additionally, HydroFlo was installed alongside WaterGuard where areas of the slab are lower than the concrete slab, and well ducts were installed to drain the water-collecting window wells, and guide water straight into the WaterGuard System.

This extensive amount of work was completed in just 2 days, giving Michelle extra time to plan the restoration of her basement so her Family Reunion can stay on target. And it did!
